Dear Friends of Otero Museum,

Your gifts do make a difference!!

Thanks to your ongoing support the Museum was able to update the heating and air conditioning in the main part of the Hiatt Building with high efficiency furnace and air conditioning units. Also, during last winter, new display cabinets for the photographic equipment display were completed.
We have ongoing projects (office, shop and loft HVAC and enclosing the Implement Shed) as well as anticipated projects (Log School House and Sciumbato House restoration) and we continue to catalog and archive our collections.  As always, there are more plans than people and money, but each and every measure of support is appreciated.

Just before our recent 25th Annual Chuckwagon Dinner, we received exciting news!!  Donors to Otero Museum are now eligible to claim Colorado tax credit under the Colorado Enterprise Zone Tax Contribution Project.  These credits can be used to reduce the amount of Colorado income tax paid. The reduction equals 25% of the contribution. For example:  a $1000 contribution can allow $250 off your Colorado income tax.  Contributions in this category must be used for capital improvements to maintain and improve facilities.

If you were thinking of making a Calendar Year 2017 donation to Otero Museum there are now three options to do so:
  1. CAPITAL FUND: Take advantage of the newly available Colorado Enterprise Zone Tax Contribution and make the check payable to Otero Museum in the usual manner.  But, you must put CAPITAL FUND or CAPITAL CAMPAIGN on the memo line of your check, and provide the last four digits of your Social Security number for the State. (Not on the check.) The Museum will complete the additional paperwork with the State so that you will receive a DR0075 Form enabling you to claim the Colorado Tax Credit.
  2. OPERATING FUND:  Just make your donation in your usual manner and let the Board of Directors decide where the money is most needed.
  3. ENDOWMENT FUND: If you do not want your donation to be used for current year expenses indicate by putting ENDOWMENT FUND on the memo line of your check. Our goal is to build an Endowment Fund of $500,000 that could provide $20,000 annually to support Museum operations.

Additionally, another way to support the Museum that may be of interest to those with an IRA is to have some or all of the Required Minimum Distributions (RMD) gifted directly to the museum.  A payment from the company that holds the IRA directly to the museum meets the RMD requirement, yet does not increase your taxable income.

The all-volunteer Otero Museum is grateful for the financial support of the community!
